About Clearance and Clean Up Ltd
Clearance and Clean Up Ltd is the region's largest and most 5-star-reviewed waste management company based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Established in 2010, it started as a "man and van service" and has grown significantly over 15 years, with operatives around the country and a strong office-based team of 10 managing operations. They offer domestic and commercial waste management, including event waste management and litter picking services, with long-term contracts with small and large organisations. In 2023, the acquisition of Hero Services Ltd became part of their company portfolio.
The Challenge
Following extensive growth and having worked closely with a consultant to refine financial areas, Clearance and Clean Up needed to focus on their next development phase: reviewing the business's foundations and operations, particularly around data, processes, and systems.
The Solution
In 2023, we decided to bring Becky on board to support our business — primarily to chair our monthly management meetings, provide advice, offer a second opinion, and bring a calm, objective perspective that wasn't affected by the day-to-day running of the company.
Becky came highly recommended and quickly proved to be an invaluable asset. Working together for 21 months on a rolling monthly retainer, Becky acted as our professional devil's advocate and sounding board, providing independent strategic advice while chairing our monthly management meetings. She positively challenged and questioned when needed, tracked progress through mid-month emails, and provided accountability by ensuring action points were followed through and completed.
Key Areas of Support
Customer Service Software Becky played a key role in finding, testing, and implementing new customer service call centre software that significantly improved our internal operations. She provided advice around needs and outputs, contributed to process mapping, researched system options including introductions, attended meetings and training, and provided problem-solving advice when things didn't go to plan.
Team Recruitment She supported the recruitment process for new customer service staff, helping us attract and select the right people for the team. This included developing new job descriptions, enhancing job adverts and the interview process, and chairing the interview panel for new positions.
Sales Script Review Becky reviewed and refined our customer service sales scripts to ensure they were clear, effective, and aligned with our brand voice. She also provided guidance around increasing sales, maximising opportunities, pricing and positioning, and improving data capture quality.
Financial Insight She gave strategic advice on breaking down financial codes, which allowed us to get a much clearer picture of where the business stood financially. Becky also contributed to annual budget setting, identifying cost savings, and advising on pricing changes for both internal staff and external services.
Strategic Business Development Becky provided guidance on staffing matters including pay increases, appraisals, contracts, and training suggestions. She also reviewed and contributed to the development of our corporate strategy arm, helping with positioning, pricing, lead generation, and sales tactics.
Accountability and Progress Tracking Becky kept the management team accountable by preparing agendas, chairing meetings, providing follow-up notes, and updating action plans to ensure that initiatives moved forward effectively.
